We live in a society that a lot of strange things are taken to court, and some of them win despite common social sense saying that it makes no sense at all. The clear example is the woman who won a law suit against a restaurant because she slipped on soda that was spilled on the ground. Thing is, she was the one doing the spilling. 

There are some strange home insurance claims out there as well. One came from the most unexpected source: a house burglar. This man broke into someone’s house and managed to lock himself in the garage. As the family who owned the house was on holiday, he stayed in for a week, living off dog food and soda. The man sued the home owners and won. Hopefully their policy covered something as strange as this.

But no matter how bizarre insurance claims sometimes are – like the man who saw a camel kick his car’s window or the guy who had a cow lick his entire car and ruin all the plastic parts of it – truth is, insurance is here to protect us. And although some strange wording can sometimes lead to unwanted results, for the most part, we are better off with it.
